Goole played Hull Zingari IV at home on Sunday following their well-deserved home win against Hessle in their previous game.

Goole’s captain RICHARDSON won the toss and elected to bowl in the hope of repeating the success of their last match in gaining early wickets. This proved advantageous as TOOKE and STEELE again opened the bowling and quickly took a wicket each to dismiss both opening batsmen leaving the score at 6-2 at this point. In came Johnson, Zingari’s first team opening batsman, followed by Sanderson, who quickly shifted the balance of the game pushing the score to 44-2 before Johnson and Sanderson both had to retire at 30. By 26 overs Zingari had managed to achieve 100 runs. MCGRATH then entered the bowling attack and quickly proved his worth achieving 2 -34 off 6 overs, backed up by HASDELL (1 – 49 off 10 overs) who at the other end bowled and caught the dangerous Ayub. The run score was quickly progressing until FALKINGHAM’S spell at the death achieved 3 good wickets. Johnson, now back at the crease, proved to be the final wicket when he was caught by HASDELL from the bowling of WHITTALL. Hull Zingari finished their innings on an impressive 191 for 9.

CHAPPELL and HASDELL opened the batting, hitting the ball cleanly and scoring several boundaries, to leave the runs on 44 when CHAPPELL, despite good timing, was picked out by the square leg fielder for a catch. MCGRATH and HASDELL then took the score to 75, with McGRATH putting on a quick 17, before his departure brought in MURPHY. Two runs later on the board 2 more wickets fell, including HASDELL (40 runs off 34 balls). In entered RICHARDSON, who with MURPHY, put on a partnership of 28 before Richardson retired. Between the next 5 wickets Goole only managed to put on 29 runs, so with the score at 134/9, this left RICHARDSON and under 13’s player, WHITTALL, with the task of scoring the 58 runs needed. WHITTALL proved himself to be outstanding against a much more experienced and senior opposition, putting on a solid defensive display and rotating the strike run. Working well in partnership together the run rate quickly reduced, and with a strong mature batting performance from RICHARDSON, he hit the final ball to smash it through cover for a 4 to the cheers of the Goole Town spectators, finishing on an impressive 77 not out.

The young team continue to improve and develop their game each week and look forward to meeting Hessle away this Sunday with confidence high to make it 3 wins in 3 games.
