SECRETARY’S REPORT NOVEMBER 2024
The 1st team battled away at the lower end of the YSL Championship East division finishing 10th with 4 wins. There was no relegation this year due to a league reorganisation, but Goole would have avoided it anyway.
Captain Neil Foster and Matty Cooper scored over 300 runs and Ben Shelton was the stand out batsman with just under 600 runs, including the season’s top score of 108 not out. Ben Lamb and Matty Cooper were the highest wicket takers with 28 each while Dave England took 23. Stand out performances were 6 for 53 from Tom Marritt and 5 for 42 from Matty.
The 2nd team had an excellent season in the YSL Ebor 3 division. They finished 3rd in the league with 13 wins and 150 points, challenging for the title right through the year. Crossgates CC won the league losing only 2 games, with Goole being one of the teams to defeat them. Ciaran Smith, Sam Coppin, Will O’Donnell and Craig Chafer all scored around the 250 runs mark, while the top score came from Steve Hicks with 111 not out. Best bowling came from Captain Jake Kennedy with 31 wickets and a best performance of 6 for 42. Jake also had 2 other 5 wicket performances. Henry Appleby with 19 wickets and Ben Scorah with 17 provided good support in what was an excellent performance from the whole squad. Due to the reorganisation, Goole will be in Ebor division 2 in the 2025 season.
Goole’s Sunday 3rd team also had an excellent season finishing 2nd out of 19 with 10 wins and 126 points. Ciaran Smith was the stand out performer this year scoring over 500 runs while Harry Pierce scored almost 300 runs for just twice out. Bowling for the 3rds, Henry Appleby took 20 wickets and Lucas Matthews 19 including a performance of 5 wickets for 6 runs in 6 overs. Ciaran Smith won the YSL Sunday league batting award and achieved a remarkable feat for Goole scoring over 1000 runs across the 3 senior teams this season.
All details of matches and performances can be found on the Club’s and the Leagues websites. Matches could also be followed live on social media.
Once again, the Club has renewed its Clubmark and East Riding accreditation schemes and seen good progress from its juniors and girls teams.
Off the field, another eventful year with the Club marquee events taking place. Also the old ‘Docker’s’ pitch has been readied for football and solar panels have been added to the Clubhouse roof. The Club is in the process of buying a brand new roller and mower ready for next season. Both the roller and solar panels were helped by grants from the ERYC and ECB respectively. There has also been recent generous donations to the Club from the family of Norman Kirk.
I want to thank Ashton Nottingham who was awarded the Clubman of the Year award for his excellent raising of funds from sponsors.
I want to thank Elza and her staff for their excellent efforts again this year with new record bar sales and for the added work involved in the organisation of the marquee events.
The Club changed its licence this year and I want to register our thanks to Richard Taylor of Gosschalks solicitors for his help with this change. We continue to be a members club, but the new licence avoids problems of signing in guests for matches, funerals, parties and so on.
I also thank all the committee and officials for their help. Neil, Mark, Antony, Dave, Stewart, 2 Simons, 2 Steves, and the rest of the committee bring various knowledge and expertise that enables us to manage successfully
It just remains to say thanks to all those who helped with teas, scoring and umpiring and getting games played. My thanks to all.
