Great first half of the season - but more work to do!

As we have reached the mid-part of the season the coaches have looked back on what has been a good season so far for the U13s.

Most of the group trained and practiced right through from Oct 2021 to the start of the season; and that dedication helped the team hit the ground running with comprehensive league wins against Whitley Bridge CC and Knottingley Town CC, followed by a Cup win against Whitley Bridge. Across all 3 games we had 6 different players scoring 20 or more for a total of 9 times, which shows the depth of talent in the batting unit.

A narrow defeat by Hensall CC followed. For once, we had a slightly inexperienced batting line up but to miss out by only 9 runs shows the potential and promise in those players, who will have gained a lot from the game. However, two more strong displays with both bat and ball against Hatfield Town CC and Drax CC got us back on track by the end of May, producing wins by 22 and 24 runs respectively.

The U13s sit second in the Division B league table with 3 league games to play before the start of July - a top four finish will secure a place in the league play-offs in July against Division A teams. We also contest a Cup quarter-final at home against Ackworth CC on the evening of 14 June. All support welcome!

Our success so far has been built on hard work; watchful opening stands providing platforms for batters with high strike rates in the middle order; and able support by tight bowling and fielding. There have been some outstanding individual displays in several games - we have 3 of the top 5 run scorers in the league and also the bowler with the best average; but the most pleasing thing for the coaches has been that every single player (including several new to the team) has contributed well to the games.

We know that each and every one of the players will pride themselves on continuing the second half of the season with the same dedication and hard work as the first, starting with a big push in June!
