A celebration of the juniors for 2019!!!

Goole Town CC celebrated the success of their junior section on Sunday at their annual presentation evening. This year the event took place in the celebration marquee, which made the evening that little bit more special for the families and friends of the junior members.

This year has been an excellent year for Goole's juniors as they have successfully run four junior teams from under 9 to under 15. As well as the four teams, Goole have also completed their second season of All-Stars Cricket that is aimed at 5 to 8 year olds, which has attracted over 50 children to the club every Friday night since May.

On the field the juniors have all had a successful season with a number of the squad being selected to play for district, regional and county squads. All rounder Thomas Franks was selected and played for Doncaster District under 13s, who managed to reach the final of the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival Cup. Wicket Keeper Jessica Marritt and Leg Spinner Lauren Oliver were both selected to play for East Yorkshire in the regional competition, both doing well and Lauren was also selected to play for Yorkshire Girls under 13s and it is hoped that further potential honors will come for the team in 2020.

The success of the junior setup at Westfield has filtered into the senior teams this year with a number of the juniors representing the senior teams. Guy Richardson and Eddie Hasdell have played big parts in the in the 1st XI promotion push as well as supporting the 2nd XI this year and Thomas Franks, Tom Marritt, Alex Wood, Ollie Chappell, Josh Tooke and Ryan Thompson have been regulars on a Saturday for the 2nds, all playing their part in a successful campaign. Tom Marritt and Ryan Thompson have taken over 29 wickets for the 2nd XI this year and Matty Cooper, who is still under the age of 20 took 21, which shows how well the junior section is doing to provide the seniors with capable players for the coming years. The Academy team this year has been made up entirely of juniors and was well led by 17 year old Guy Richardson. The Academy took over 85 wickets and scored over 1000 runs in the season and as not one of the players is over the age of 17, it shows that the club has a lot to offer for the future in terms of capable cricketers.

The coaches of the club wished all the players well and thanked them all for their efforts for 2019. They also wished to thank its shirt sponsors, Wade Joinery Construction for their support as well as thanking the long serving coaches Steve Foster and Jack Garland for the time and effort that they put into the juniors as well as thanking Stewart Gibbins for umpiring many of the matches that the juniors played in.
