Gibbins and O'Donnell both score big to take Goole to the win on last game of season.

Goole Town 2nd XI completed their season with a 7 wicket win against Eastrington at Eastrington Playing Fields. Having won the toss Eastrington surprisingly to Goole elected to bat on what looked like a good wicket to have a bowl. After the 45 overs were complete this decision was shown to be the correct one as the home side never really looked in danger as they amassed 229-4 with Shane Chatham (85), Garry Tooke (60no) & James Wraith (45) taking the Goole bowlers to task with some lusty blows. Tooke and Chatham hit a 155 run partnership, which setup an excellent platform for the home side to post what looked like a challenging total for Goole to chase. Jakey Kennedy was the pick of Goole's bowlers taking 3 for 66, but Eastrington dug in and the rest of Goole's attack struggled to contain Tooke and Chatham for the majority of the innings.

In reply Goole got off to an excellent start as Gibbins and Simon Franks put on another good partnership for the 1st wicket to take Goole to 60 from the first 10 overs. Franks (20) was first to go as he mis-timed a cut shot off Mike Chatham and was caught at point by Harrison. Jack Knowles removed Chappell an over later and at 61-2, Goole were now looking towards the experience of Gibbins and Will O'Donnell to move the score along. Both batsmen did just that and a partnership of 161 followed to take Goole to the brink of victory and Gibbins to a possible century. O'Donnell supported Gibbins well as he hit 4 sixes and 6 fours in a 69 ball 67 not out, but Gibbins couldn't quite get over the century mark as he was well caught by James Wraith for 96 from 102 balls. Gibbins innings was 118 minutes long with 15 fours and 1 six. After Gibbins was removed Goole only needed seven to win and it was left to O'Donnell and Thomas Franks to finish things off with over ten overs to spare.

Goole can reflect on a good season in Division Three Ebor, where they finished well clear in 4th place. Had August not been a month to forget in terms of results the season could well have been a promotion winning season, but on reflection, fourth place is a good finish for the 2s as they look to build the experience of the younger players with a view to success in future seasons.
