Under 9's 271 - Bawtry U9's 246. Goole win by 25 runs.

Goole entertained Bawtry in the 1st round of the Cup on Sunday at Westfield.

Bawtry had the honour of batting first. Goole's bowling and fielding had the opening pair in trouble from the off as Thomas Marrit bowled Bartlett with his 1st ball and then he had him caught by Jenson Clarke with his 3rd. Two further wickets fell in Clarke's own over as Marrit returned the favour for Clarke with a well taken catch and Wigglesworth ran out Gore two balls later. Ollie Sugden, Thomas Franks and Flynn Ullathorne bowled three tight overs with Ullathorne taking a wicket by bowling Gore. Lewis Wigglesworth and Jack Merrington followed suit as Goole continued to keep the scoring to a minimum. Sam Wood and Thomas Marrit's 2nd over gave Bawtry the lift that they needed as Evans hit Wood for ten from his over and then took 12 from Marrit. Normal service was resumed in the latter overs as Goole took control again and took two further wickets; one being a run out by Clark and the final wicket being bowled by Merrington. Bawtry ended with a score of 246 from their 16 overs, which meant Goole had a target that was seen as getable.

Goole's reply began slowly as Ullathorne (12) and Clark (0) lost two wickets and struggled to push the score along. Sam Wood (13) got things back on track with Wigglesworth (4) as they scored 17 from their overs. The two Thomas's, Franks and Marrit gave Goole the edge with an excellent partnership of 30. Marrit top scored with 21 and Franks hit 9 in an excellent partnership which turned the tie towards Goole. Goole's noses were ahead going into the final 4 overs and they only had to survive to win the match. As it turned out Goole won easily as Merrington (12) and Ollie Sugden (10) struck some lusty blows to take 22 from the Bawtry bowlers without losing an wicket. Sugden and Merrington did very well in their innings and ensured that Goole didn't have to worry about the result.

Goole finished on 271 to win by 25 runs. Man of the Match, Thomas Marrit was rewarded for his excellent all round performance with bat, ball and in the field.

Goole do not have a fixture on Sunday, but play a re-arranged match away against Fishlake on Friday night, stumps 6pm.
