Jack Merrington top scores with 41 in 4 overs as 9s rout Rossington...

Jack Merrington top scored with 41 in 4 overs as the under 9s routed Rossington on Sunday. Goole took what they felt was an inexperienced team to Rossington but after a few overs they quickly realised that the experience that they had would be quite enough.

Sam Wood and Jack Merrington got things underway with what may be a record stand for Goole under 9s as they scored 60 from 24 balls. Left hander Merrington hit 3 sixes in a row and 4 fours in a well played 41 from 12 balls and Wood supported him with 19. Jenson Clark (15) and Callum Nutton (7) scored 22 to push the scores along and they were ably supported by Thomas Marrit (14) and Lewis Wigglesworth (15) scoring 29. Goole's final pair of Thomas Franks (23) and Luke Coult (15) polished things off by adding 38 in the last 24 balls.

Goole's final total of 351 from 16 overs is one of the highest scores that the Goole coaches can find in the records and it was a daunting prospect for Rossington to chase.

As expected Goole's bowlers were not going to let Rossington have a chance. Lewis Wigglesworth & Jenson Clark bowled well to take 3 wickets each. One of the Wigglesworth wickets was a magnificent catch on the boundary from Merrington. Sam Wood took 1 excellent caught and bowled chance after bowling tightly and Franks, Coult, Nutton, Merrington and Marritt all bowled economically to tie down the batsmen. Goole didn't give away many free hits which was pleasing for the coach as this is where matches can be won and lost. The fielding was excellent with 2 catches and 4 run outs and Rossington's final total of 202 was never going to trouble Goole.

Another excellent win for an emerging Goole side sees them 2nd in the table to early leaders Sprotborough. Man of the Match Jack Merrington took home the new MOM trophy for his excellent all round display. Goole will be hoping the good form will continue on Sunday as they entertain Bawtry at Westfield in the cup.
