Youngsters Claim Promotion Place to end fantastic season

Goole Academy lost the toss and were inserted at Eastrington in the last game of their maiden season. Having lost Louis Greaves and Tom McGrath early Goole needed to consolidate and did so through Declan Eastwood and Guy Richardson. The pair managed to steer Goole clear of the early hiccup and took the score to 47 before Richardson was bowled for 10. Eastwood was joined by Jason Greaves and the pair continued the good work with some excellent running and boundary hitting. Eastwood progressed to 50 with a four through square leg and Greaves pushed into the 30's with some well timed shots. Eastwood continued to dominate the Eastrington bowlers and progressed to 72 before he was caught when the ball held up on the 'sticky' wicket. Greaves followed not long after for 32 as did Thompson who was well caught for 2. Ollie Ounsley and Simon Franks were solid in their attack and defence as they took up where Eastwood had left off. Ounsley hit 5 sixes in an unbeaten 80no and Franks supported well with 29no. The pair put on 110 in 14 overs and pushed Goole past 250 to end on 263-6.

Eastrington in reply lost early wickets as they attempted to chase down the huge score. The required rate was nearing seven an over after five overs as Richardson and Stephen Thornton kept a tight reign on the Eastrington openers. This brought about the 1st wicket to Richardson who bowled Wraithe for four. Ex-Goole player Craig Chafer hung around for a while, but the pressure got to him and he was run out by Declan Greaves trying to steal a second run for 12. Eastrington never really looked like they would be able to chase down the score and the only player to put up a fight was Rich Collie who played well to make a well crafted half century. Raymond Coates supported Collie as they thwarted Goole's attack batting out the final overs with 2 wickets to spare. Their final total of 163 was well short and Goole won by 100 runs.

Goole finished the season in 2nd place, which would normally have seen them promoted to Division 2. Unfortunately due to the team only playing on a Sunday this will prevent them from moving divisions and they will looking to go one better next year by winning Division 3 outright. Ollie Ounsley should be congratulated for the way that the captained the team this season as should his band of young stars who are all under the age of 18 and showed what a bright future there is at Goole Town CC with this amount of cricketing talent.
