2nd Win on the Bounce for Academy

Matty Cooper led the way on Sunday with the ball as the Academy moved up five places in the league to sixth place after a convincing win against Hull Zingari. After Goole lost the toss Zingari surprisingly elected to bat and were struggling from the off as Goole’s bowlers took charge of the match. Wickets from leg spinner Ralf Dendle and Thomas McGrath gave Goole the edge early but it was Cooper who made the major inroads as he took four wickets in quick succession. Excellent fielding from the Goole team meant that Zingari always struggled to mount a challenge. The pick of the catches was an excellent take from Josh Walton who rose sharply to catch a well struck drive whilst fielding at mid-on from the bowling of Cooper. Goole’s youngsters excelled all day in the field and Zingari’s batsmen were always on the back foot and under pressure during their innings. Tight bowling combined with good fielding meant that Zingari could only manage 115-8 from their 40 overs. As the rain was threatening and a result could have been in doubt Goole decided that attack was the only way in their reply. Skipper Ollie Ounsley promoted himself to open the innings with Harvey Thomas and the move proved successful as they won the match without losing a wicket with Ounsley finishing on 82 and Thomas 33 not out respectively.

Goole are now in mid-table respectability and will look to push on for a fourth league win next Sunday against Patrington. On Friday they will play a rearranged cup match against Hessle at Westfield.
