1sts called off without a ball bowled & 2's crunch game with Scarborough curtailed by weather

Both Goole Town 1st & 2nd XI were left frustrated by the weather on Saturday in their respective final and penultimate matches of the Season. The 1sts were washed out by overnight and morning rain that got heavier as the day went on, which meant that no play was possible at Westfield. The result leaves the 1st XI in fourth place in the table, 32 points behind Carlton Towers in 3rd place. The weather as well as a few indifferent performances has cost Goole this year. Five matches have been abandoned which involved the 1st XI as opposed to two matches for Beverley and Sheriff Hutton Bridge, who were promoted from Division One. Had the weather been kinder and Goole not squandered good positions in matches the season could well have been different and the 1sts could be celebrating promotion back to the Premier Division. Unfortunately this was not the case, but Kevin Murphy's men can look to the positives as they look to make a significant push for promotion in 2019.

Goole 2's travelled to a damp Scarborough and did actually manage to start the crunch game that could have decided their fate for 2018. Scarborough openers Padmore and Howard both gave early chances to Goole, which were not taken, however the rain came down in the fourth over and the players left the field not to return. The captains shook hands two hours later and they will now move on to the last game of the season, where Goole will play Selby and Scarborough travel to Londesborough Park. Scarborough are eleven points behind Goole, which means that they have to better Goole's result at Westfield to avoid relegation. Goole will hope to win against their local rivals and put the result beyond Scarborough and see themselves stay in Division Two.
