Awards galore for Town's juniors at the club presentation evening 2018

Goole Town CC held its annual presentation evening last week to celebrate the huge success of the year for the club. The season may not have yielded trophies for the teams, but the continued growth of the junior section as well as the introduction of the new "ECB All Stars Cricket" scheme are two highlights that Goole are proud of for 2018.

The Under 9's had an excellent season for such a young team. Led by Freddie Foster, Toby Bailey & Ashton Smith the team performed well in the season picking up one win and making several matches against more experienced players close affairs. The winners on the night were: Managers Player of Year - Freddie Foster, Toby Bailey, Players Player of Year & Cricket Award - Ashton Smith and Most Improved - Ben Dillon.

In the Under 11's a very inexperienced team pushed hard all season but failed to record a win. The 11's are bolstered by Goole's ever improving girls who have all represented East Yorkshire over the year with great enthusiasm and developing skill. Jessica Marritt, Naomi and Lois Mell, Henry Appleby and big hitting Will Herbert all did well in the season with Herbert recording the highest score of 41 in a cup match. The winners on the night were: Managers Player of Year - Henry Appleby, Players Player of Year - Jenson Clarke, Cricket Award - William Herbert, Most Improved - Freddie Foster.

The Under 13's had a very successful year finishing 3rd in the Doncaster and 2nd in the Pontefract Leagues. They won their section in the Pontefract League but were well beaten in the play-off against a very strong Ackworth team. Thomas Franks, Ciaran Mell and Thomas Marritt were the run makers and wicket takers for the 13's but they were not alone as many of the squad scored runs and wickets to make it a very good year for the team. Winners on the night were: Managers Player of Year - Jack Merrington/Lewis Wigglesworth, Players Player of Year - Thomas Marritt, Cricket Award - Owen Murphy, Most Improved - Charlie Wilcox, Batting Award - Thomas Franks, Bowling Award - Ciaran Mell

In the Under 15's it was a mixed season with 4 wins and 5 defeats. The team improved as the season went on and a fabulous performance against the runaway winners, Doncaster very nearly caused an upset. Eddie Hasdell led the team well with the bat as well as being skipper and James Steele showed that he is developing as a bowler by topping the bowling charts for the season. All the 15's played for the senior teams in 2018 with some playing and taking wickets/making runs in the 1st and 2nd XI's. It's great to see the young lads progressing to the senior level and the club will look to build on this in 2019 by promoting many more of the 15's. The winners on the night were: Managers Player of Year - Oliver Chappell, Players Player of Year - Eddie Hasdell, Cricket Award - Alex Wood, Most Improved - Josh Tooke, Batting Award - Eddie Hasdell, Bowling Award - James Steele.

Goole Town CC would like to thank the coaches, parents and supporters of the club that worked so hard throughout the season to make sure that the teams could play cricket. Junior indoor training will begin again in mid to late January and anyone wanting information about the club should contact junior@gooletowncc.co.uk or go to it's website www.gooletowncc.co.uk
