2nd's cause their own problems in defeat at Londesborough on Saturday.

Goole 2nd XI suffered a defeat that could well have been a victory on Saturday at the picturesque Londesborough Park ground. Having lost the toss Goole were asked to bat and as has happened in previous weeks Goole's top order scored nicely in the opening overs. Declan Eastwood, after a brisk and confident start from the teenager, where he latched on to any width given by the bowlers fell first to the bowling of Brooke. He was rushed by a short ball from the opener, which he pulled straight up in the air to be caught byt the keeper Stephenson for 23. Looking back on his dismissal after the game Eastwood will no doubt be disappointed that he did not go on and capitalise on his positive start by pushing on to a bigger and more substantial score. In future weeks it's hoped that the youngster will do just that as his talent is there for all to see but he possibly needs a little more patience when starting his innings. The next few overs saw few dramas for Goole as Webster and Gibbins scored freely but when Goole reached 75-1, Webster was caught behind for 20 from the bowling of Sowersby. This brought Neil Foster to the crease who is in need of some runs after a rather barren spell from the Goole stalwart. Unfortunately the problems for Goole began here as Gibbins and Foster were both run out leaving Goole on 86-4 after 22 overs. Foster was cruelly given run out by the umpire as it was judged that he was out of his ground after he had left a ball from Shingles that went through to the keeper Stephenson. Stephenson threw the ball from 10 yards away and hit the stumps which brought about an appeal from the Park team. The umpire at square leg felt that Foster was out of his ground and raised his finger to signal the end for the batsman. At this level there is no DRS or stump camera to review the decision, so Foster had to go and was out for a two ball duck, which left him a little annoyed to say the least. Things got worse for Goole 3 overs later as Gibbins was also Run Out in bizarre fashion from a No Ball as he tried to run a second run to the fielder Eagling. Instead of settling for 2 from the no ball, Gibbins tried to steal a second run, but was well short as Eagling threw the ball to the keeper who removed the bails without any issues. After these two dismissals Goole settled down as Louis Sugden and Matty Cooper scored 41 for the 5th wicket to take Goole to 127-5 with 13 overs to spare. Goole should and could have pushed on, but from this point on they collapsed and after Matty Cooper was dismissed for a lovely 45 Goole were finally bowled out for 166 in the last over of the innings with only 19 runs coming from the last 10 overs. This was well short of where they should have been and they knew they were at least 30 runs short.

In reply Park were always on top and apart from a good spell of bowling from Louis Sugden, which gave him figures of 2 for 29 from 12 overs Goole were always playing catch up after the disappointing display with the bat. A 51 run opening partnership from Jennings and Beevors setup the innings and although Goole fought back to get Park to 89-4 in the 30th over, the next pair of Stephenson(53) and Rook(20) had just enough to get Park over the line and win by 5 wickets in the penultimate over.

The 2s need to learn that nice 20's & 30's will not win games and Matty Cooper excluding all the team failed to capitalise on what could have been a 200+ score. On Saturday they will look to redeem themselves at Stamford Bridge as they face Stamford's 2nd Team.
