1st's thwarted by weather in close match at Goole, Foster rescue effort in vain for 2s at Stamford Bridge & 3s beaten at home

Both the 1st and 2nd XI were stopped abruptly in their tracks on Saturday as monsoon like conditions descended on their respective matches at Goole and Stamford Bridge.

The 1st XI had a difficult day with the bat as they entertained Sewerby at Westfield. After losing the toss Kevin Murphy's men were asked to bat and it was Sewerby who started the brightest, taking the wickets of Ben Shelton and Ashton Nottingham with the score on 32 and then 38. Shelton was adjudged LBW to Smith for 13 and then two overs later Nottingham was bowled by Long for 1. Ollie Ounsley and skipper Murphy regrouped and took Goole to 61 without too many dramas, but in the 12th over, Ounsley drilled a full ball straight back towards the bowler, which seemed destined to race to the boundary. The bowler following through in his run up managed to get a finger onto the ball and diverted it on to the non strikers stumps and ran out Murphy for 30, who was backing up at that end. Ounsley and Ben Earle kept things quiet and took Goole to 94 before Ounsley was caught from the bowling of Janney for 25 and then 3 balls later Matty Cooper was LBW to the same bowler. At 94-5 Goole had some rebuilding to do, but with in-form Earle at the crease there was still hope of Goole posting a competitive total. Earle went on to post 50 from 51 balls, but Goole's lower order could not stay with him as they all fell for single figure scores except Kennedy who ended up not out 11, with Goole being bowled out for 161 inside 38 overs.

Goole had given Sewerby 10 overs on top of the 48 that they were scheduled to bowl, which put the East Coast team well in control and looking like firm favourites. Goole's opening pair of Guy Richardson and Jakey Kennedy had other ideas and ripped into the Sewerby order to take the first four wickets with only 32 on the board. Opener Wragg was bowled by Richardson's second ball and Hurst followed not long after as he edged to keeper Earle from Kennedy. Kennedy stepped up again to bowl Sewerby captain Cooper for 12 in the 8th over and Richardson took his second wicket when Long steered a catch to Ounsley at gully. Scoring got a little easier after this and Janney & Artley put on 45 for the next wicket to take the score to 77-5 and then Artley and Beasley scored 40 to get Sewerby close to a win at 117-5 with 32 overs left in the innings. It was at this time that the clouds had started to form and the umpires took the players from the field due to rain. After around 30 minutes of torrential rain the umpires called play off for the day and both teams had to settle for 9 points plus their bonuses. It was a shame that the weather intervened as both teams were in with a shout of victory with Sewerby just edging the favourite tag. Goole could have clawed back a win if they had bowled tightly, but unfortunately they will never know and had to settle for the draw.

The 2's travelled to Stamford Bridge 2nds on Saturday and were in trouble from the off. Goole lost the toss and were asked to bat and from ball one they were on the back foot. Ever relialble Anthony Gibbins was dismissed first ball of the innings as he drove at a ball from Easton to be caught behind for a duck. Webster went not long after to the same bowler as he chased a wide ball only to edge behind, this time to first slip Stevens. 7-2 turned into 9-3 as Declan Eastwood followed Webster as he too edged to Stevens at slip from the bowling of Fairweather. Will O'Donnell joined Neil Foster, but his stay was short-lived as he was caught for 8 from Easton to leave Goole on 17-4. Andy Rodgers and Foster did a rebuilding job and stemmed the flow of wickets as they scored 41 from 18 overs to take Goole to 58-5 before Rodgers was removed LBW for 15 by Healey. After this Goole went onto the front foot and finally an innings began to form. Foster, who has struggled for runs this season looked assured in attack and defence and batted very well with Nat Aitchison to take Goole to 155-6 with a 97 run partnership. It was good to see Foster back in the runs and his eventual 72 from 139 balls was a very good effort under the circumstances of the innings. Foster was finally bowled by Easton who took his fifth wicket of the innings and Aitchison went not long after for 37 as he tried to push the score along and was caught at long off. Goole finally finished their innings on 170-7, which was a good score after all the issues earlier in the day.

After the break Stamford began their innings in the same way as Goole by losing their opener Healey early for 2 as he played onto his own stumps from the bowling of Sam Earle. Unfortunately for Goole Stamford didn't follow in their footsteps as captain Milner and Smith took them to 48-1 before the storm that halted proceedings at Goole 30 minutes earlier rolled along to Stamford Bridge. 20 minutes of torrential rain left huge amounts of water on the outfield and wicket and even though Stamford tried to mop up, their efforts were always going to fail and play was called off around an hour after play had been suspended.

Goole 3rd XI took on Driffield on Sunday at home and although they had a much improved performance came up short and lost by 7 wickets.

Goole batted first and finished the innings 146 all out, with Andy Rodgers (52), Ollie Chappell (22), Jack Holmes (21) & Sam Wood (15) top scoring for Town. Goole did well against a good Driffield attack and there were many good things to come out of the innings as they played positively and looked to post a competitive score. As it turned out Driffield had just enough and won the match by 7 wickets with 15 overs to spare. Goole's youngsters bowled well with Thomas Franks bowling economically for 11 runs from 4 overs, Ed Hasdell taking 2 for 33 from 8 overs as he bowled his spin in tandem with Declan Eastwood who also bowled with economy to end with figures for 0-20 from 7 overs. The catching was good from Goole as Sam Wood and Ollie Chappell took excellent catches to keep Goole in the hunt, but the more experienced Baker (51), Yorkshire U12 captain Noah Kelly (30) and Syrett (24 no) was enough to get Driffield over the line.
